Replacing a Worktop Without Replacing the Kitchen
If your cabinets are sound, there's no need to rip them out just because the surface on top has had its day. A new worktop sits on the units you already have, and with new upstands to match, it changes the whole feel of the room. It's also the natural partner to new doors: together, they're most of what people notice in a kitchen.
At the visit we check that the cabinets are level and strong enough for the material you want, measure the run and corners, and look at the sink and hob. Then we fit the new top, cut the openings, seal the joints and edges, and reconnect what we've moved. Your old worktop leaves with us.

What's Included With a New Worktop
Templating & Measuring
Your run is measured at home. For quartz, an exact template is taken once the cabinets are confirmed ready.
Removing the Old Worktop
We take off the old surface carefully, protecting the cabinets underneath, and take it away.
Laminate & Compact
Hard-wearing, easy to clean and good value. Compact laminate is thinner, denser and fully waterproof.
Solid Oak & Walnut
Warm, natural timber that can be sanded and re-oiled over the years to look fresh again.
Quartz
A stone surface made to measure, resistant to stains and scratches, and polished to a smooth finish.
Upstands, Sink & Hob Cut-Outs
Matching upstands along the wall, and neat, sealed openings for your sink, hob and tap.
Materials
Which Worktop Suits Your Kitchen?
Laminate
The most affordable option, with a huge range of colours and stone or wood effects. It's easy to look after, but a hot pan put straight down can mark it, and water can get into a badly sealed joint.
Compact Laminate
A solid, thin slab, usually around 12mm, with the colour running right through. It's waterproof, so it can take an undermount sink, and it gives a slim modern edge for less than stone.
Solid Wood
Oak and walnut bring warmth to a cottage kitchen or a shaker scheme. Wood needs oiling now and then and doesn't like standing water, but light marks can be sanded out instead of living with them.
Quartz
The most durable everyday surface: non-porous, hard to stain and very hard to scratch. It costs the most and takes the longest, because it's templated and made to measure, but it lasts.

What Do New Kitchen Worktops Cost in Bournemouth?
The material is the biggest factor, followed by the length of the run, the number of corners and joints, and how many cut-outs you need.

| Worktop | What's included | Typical time | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laminate | Supply, fitting, upstands and sink/hob cut-outs on a typical L-shaped run | 1 day on site | £500–£1,300 |
| Compact laminate | As above, including an undermount sink opening | 1–2 days on site | £1,200–£2,500 |
| Solid wood | Supply, fitting, oiling, upstands and cut-outs | 1–2 days on site | £1,000–£2,500 |
| Quartz | Template, fabrication, fitting, upstands and polished cut-outs | Template plus a fitting day | £2,000–£5,000 |
Typical prices for Bournemouth and nearby towns, for an L-shaped run on existing cabinets. Your price is confirmed in writing after a free home visit. Quartz is made to measure after templating, and we'll give you that wait at your visit.
What affects the price of a new worktop?
- Material. Laminate costs the least and quartz the most, with compact and solid wood in between.
- Length and shape. Each corner and joint adds time, and an island or breakfast bar adds material.
- Cut-outs. Undermount sinks, hob openings and drainer grooves all add to the cost.
- Upstands and splashbacks. Matching upstands are usually included. A full-height splashback behind the hob is extra.
- Sink and tap. A new sink and tap often go in when the worktop changes, if you'd like them.

Practical points
Can You Keep the Sink and Hob?
Usually, yes. If your sink and hob are in good condition, they can be removed and refitted into the new worktop, as long as the new openings are cut to suit them. Many people take the chance to change the sink or tap at the same time, because the worktop is off anyway. If the hob is gas, disconnecting and reconnecting it must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We'll explain at your visit how that's arranged for your job.

Your questions
Kitchen Worktop FAQs
How long does quartz take?
Quartz is made to measure after the template is taken, so there's a wait between templating and fitting. We'll tell you the timing for your job with your quote.
Can you fit a worktop I've bought?
Ask us at your visit. It depends on the material, the size and whether it suits your cabinets.
Can laminate sit next to a hob?
Yes, it's used next to hobs in most kitchens. Use a trivet for hot pans, though, because direct heat can mark the surface.
Do you remove the old worktop?
Yes. Taking off and disposing of the old worktop is part of every job.
